Client Brief: Design and animate a threatening scorpion enemy for a desert-themed level. Requirements included:
Clear, readable silhouette for gameplay.
A menacing idle pose and 3-5 attack animations (e.g., sting, claw slash, burrow).
Cohesive color palette fitting a hostile environment.
My Process & Solution:
Research & Sketching: Studied real scorpion anatomy and movement to inform a stylized, exaggerated design.
Pixel Art Execution: Created a 128x128px sprite sheet focusing on chitinous texture, segmented tail articulation, and fluid, weighted movement.
Animation Focus: Prioritized anticipation and follow-through on its sting attack to maximize visual impact for the player.
Skills Demonstrated: Pixel art character design, enemy/boss design, biomechanical animation, sprite sheet organization, client collaboration.
